How to Plan a Great Romantic Getaway

Romantic GetawayRomance is not only for the newly met or the newly wed. Being married for 2 or 25 year or have a bunch of kids, is no reason for the romance to end. Whether it is a simple gesture like receiving flowers on a day that not your birthday or a grand gesture where you get surprised with a perfectly planned romantic getaway, all of us love, feeling special. This year, bring a smile to your spouse face by surprising him/her with a romantic getaway.

Planning a romantic getaway does not have to be complicated or stressful for anyone.

Whether you plan a short weekend or a long holiday, a romantic getaway will not be enjoyable, if you or your spouse is worried about the kids or the pets. Follow our 5-step guide to planning a great weekend and ensure that your romantic getaway is relaxing and romantic.

Step 1: ‘When’
The first step in planning is always deciding when to travel. This is a crucial step as there is no point planning an elaborate getaway, booking your hotel accommodation, tickets etc., and then be forced to cancel because you couldn’t get leave. Make sure you clear your schedule and your spouse’s in advance. This will also ensure that your getaway is uninterrupted and relaxed.

Step 2: ‘The Kid Factor
If you have kids or pets, arrange for a babysitter or arrange for them to stay with family or friends. If you are proud parents of teenagers, you also have the option of letting your teens stay at friend’s places or arrange for a friend to check up on them occasionally.

Step 3: ‘Destination’
There are many romantic destinations to choose from, so you need to make a decision on how far do you want to travel. If you are working with tight time constraints, a closer destination may be more suitable. Keep in mind, closer does not mean less romantic. Time away from daily pressures and quality time with one’s spouse is equally enjoyable whether you 40 miles away or 400 miles.

Step 3: ‘Hotel Accommodation’
As the saying goes, ‘different strokes for different folks’. So, what one might find romantic, another might not. If one person, picks a cozy bed and breakfast then another might find a private cottage more appealing. But, the key ‘thought’ to keep in mind to select a hotel successfully is ‘what will my spouse find romantic’.

Step 4: ‘Travel Booking’
The minute, you make your hotel booking; you have to make your travel bookings. If you are driving down, you have no worries but if you have to travel by train, bus or plane, book immediately. This will reduce the possibility of a ‘No Ticket Availability’ situation, which will ruin all your plans.

Step 5: ‘Bonus Points
There are two ways to earn bonus points – ‘Personal Touches’ and ‘Candle Light Dinner’. Delight your spouse with a bottle of wine or chocolates or roses (arrange for the hotel to provide you the same in advance). No romantic weekend can be complete without a candle lit dinner for two. Search for restaurants in the area and arrange for a special romantic dinner.
