Kickin’ it in Kula Lumpur

Modern yet Ancient will probably be your first thoughts on visiting Kula Lumpur. This beautiful capital of Malaysia artful places modern office towers next to evocative British Colonial buildings. If you are a first time, Kula Lumpur is an ideal starting point for your journey. Kula Lumpur has many attractions from Batu Caves to the National Museum.  With so many attractions, it is difficult to decide what to see, especially if you have only a couple of days. We have chartered out a must-see guide for tourists planning to visit Kula Lumpur.

Start with the Lake Gardens (Taman Tasik Perdana). Built around an artificial lake, Lake Gardens are Kuala Lumpur's prettiest park. It has a regular venue for musical and cultural performances ‘Panggung Anniversary’, which is set in a secluded valley. It has a playground, jogging tracks, exercise stations and rowing boats. It also has a butterfly park, which houses some 6,000 butterflies of over 120 species. Walking around the park and get a taste of what the Malaysian rainforest as there are over 15,000 plants from 100 species and more.

Batu CavesNext step on our tour is the Batu Caves. These large caverns caves are located just outside of Kuala Lumpur and lie within the one of the holiest Hindu shrines in the country. The caves are labyrinthine by design, stretching off in all directions, although visitors can only see part of these attractions. Rock climbers have many bolted routes to explore within the caves, while cheeky monkeys add a fun element.



National Zoo and AquariumNext, stop at the National Zoo and Aquarium, which is located northeast of Kuala. It contains hundreds of different species of animals, birds, and reptiles including an extensive collection of marine and freshwater species.

If you are more cultural or history driven, check out Jame Mosque (Masjid Jame), one of the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Street, the center of Kuala Lumpur's original Chinatown.

Jame Mosque (Masjid Jame) is located at the junction of the Kelang and Gombak rivers. This Indian Muslim mosque is ornate, has an eye-catching Moorish facade and an imposing domed tower.

Petaling StreetPetaling Street will fascinate not only the historian in you with its night lamps of old and traditional atmosphere but will also satisfy the ardent shopper with its many vendors. You can purchase everything from gems and clothes to toys.

You can also visit China Town for bargains and great food. Check out many old structures that are remnants of Malaysia’s past such as the Lee Rubber building, the Old Victoria Institution, the Police Sikh Temple, the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple and more.

If you are an avid cricket watcher, you should definitely check out Merdeka Square, which is located just outside the city. This Tudor-style Selangor Club is surrounded as it is by elements of old England.

The final stop on our journey is Central Market, which is an air-conditioned cultural centre for craftspeople, local artists and performers. You can find great antiques, custom-made handicrafts, and kitschy souvenir items for sale. You can also take in performances of Malay martial arts, Chinese orchestral performances and Indian classical dance. So, please make sure to leave sufficient time to visit the Central Market.
